
According to a recent study at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem , antioxidants contained in grapefruit appear to have a similar effect as two drugs that treat type II diabetes. According to experts, naringenin – that gives the specific taste of the fruit, is the antioxidant that has the benefic effect on the body. Research has shown that this substance helps the body to increase body’s sensitivity to insulin, also helping loose and maintain weight, which is very important in diabetes. Consumed after a meal, the fruit causes the liver to burn fat instead of storing it in the body.
