Nutrition specialists believe that the daily consumption of nuts brings great benefits to people suffering from metabolic syndrome, a condition defined by obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes. Nuts are high in minerals - iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and iodine, vitamins - A, E, B, P and C, amino acids, unsaturated fats and proteins. Because of the unsaturated fats (found in a quantity of about 60% in nuts), and potassium and magnesium, the fruits are recommended for people suffering from various cardiovascular diseases. In addition, studies have shown that because of these fats nuts reduce the “bad” cholesterol in the body and strengthen blood vessel walls. Nutrition experts noted that because nuts contain iodine, they are effective in fighting diseases associated with thyroid gland.
